Is Matchbox making plastic cars now?

I can't find any new metal ones.

I believe that they were actually bought out by Mattel years ago so they this may explain it. I assume it's also cheaper for them to make them in plastic.

Yes. The very limited metal cars are a thing of the past. Rarely they will produce a metal car, but plastic is much more economical that metal cars. Plastic is also cheaper than metal production wise. Plastic can be molded, but sheet metal requires an expensive press, which has many moving parts and can experience more wear.
