You have to measure what is at stake and what is to be gained. Your neighbor may have been out of line and he's upset you, but to exacerbate the situation by spending time and money on making a point is probably useless. Be the bigger person and move on.

If you damage or destroy their property, you can be sued. A better choice is to file legal action or film their wrongdoing and press charges.

The courts are not a place to seek revenge. You would have a legal cause of action against your neighbor for trespass which is an actionable suit.

You can take him to small claims court because the tree was adding to the property value of your home. Be careful though if any of the branches of your tree were hanging over onto his property he has a right to cut them back so you may not end up with a full payment for damages.

Pour salt all over his lawn at 1 or 2 in the morning. about 5 pounds should do make sure it is summer or fall
