Is it safe to put a baby in a Jumpster?

If so, what is the age to start?

Answer by  AmandaRae (102)

It is not a good idea to put a baby in a Jumpster as these types of devices do not support appropriate gross motor development.

They're not the greatest things in the world. Due to the jumping motion they can actually cause shaken baby syndrome.

It's safe, as long as you have it in a secure place, and it's in good condition. An appropriate age to start is around 6-8 months.

Yes, as long as baby can really hold their head and neck strongly. Usually you can start them around five months.

I do not trust the doorway style jumpers as baby can hit the sides of the doorway and at least smash fingers and possibly hit their head. I prefer the stand alone jumper, because they allow much less side to side motion. If you have an archway, the doorway jumpers are great. Baby must have great head control, 6 months.
