Is it proper in fine dining to serve from the left?

It is proper to serve from left and clear from the right in most all dining situations. The only logical explanation for this I have is you are less likely to spill someones drink when serving from the left as glasses are usually placed above the knife and spoon on the right side of the plate.

Yes it is right to serve from the left because in fine dining we use the method of clockwise and it is a formal way to be served from the left. We always had the habit of eating with our right hand so if we will be served from our right handside it will make disturbance and nothin else.

It is proper if that is the only comfortable way to reach and serve or if the person being served is left handed. Most of the time it is the customary to serve from the right but if there is not enough room or the item being served makes right hand service impossible it is ok.

No. You should serve from the right and remove from the left after a guest has placed their utensils, knife and fork together, on the right side of the plate.
