Is it okay to use black and white tile in the bathroom these days?

Yes, black and white bathroom tile is still in style. It's not necessarily the colors that make something seem outdated, but more the arrangement. I'd try to stay away from alternating the colors. One way to update it and make it interesting is to have a section of black tile and a section of white to add contrast and interest.

If doing art-deco style, yes, its okay. Don't use black and white if planning on using colors besides gray. Would help if fixtures were brushed-nickel.

Of course it is. It is very stylish and proper, and will give your bathroom an 'uptown' feeling. Don't go by what's in style when it comes to your house. If you like a style or color, go for it! It's your house and you want to feel comfortable there.

Yes I believe it is still in style, and much better than painting the bathroom bright purple for example! I have seen a beautiful bathroom that was white tiled except for a foot and a half section halfway up the wall, which was small alternating black and white tiles.
