From time to time people tend to have larger bowel movements than normal. This is normal. However, if your son is constipated often or it hurts all the time when he poops you should really contact his doctor to see if there is something wrong with him. He could tear his bowel if his movements are too big.

Generally speaking large bowel movements are not a cause for concern. If you are eating a proper diet with enough fiber your bowel movments should be healthy size. Only worry about hard, difficult to pass bowel movements or frequent large, loose or watery bowel movements. These could indicate a problem.

Big bowel movements can be attributed to multiple reasons and in most cases is normal. If your son is having discomfort, bloody stools, a history of constipation, or other issue, you should take him to see a physician. You might try increasing fiber in his diet by feeding him more fruits and vegetables and giving him more water to drink.

It is typically alright if children have large bowel movements as long as they do not cause pain or bleeding. Try increasing the amount of liquid he drinks as well as his fiber, this should help some. Other "natural" cures include using prunes or grapes occasionally to make him regular.
