It is necessary to see an eye doctor for astigmatism if it affects your vision enough to affect your driving. For example, if it makes it difficult for you to read street signs.

Astigmatism will not cure itself. If you want to see clearly, you will need to see a doctor and get glasses or contacts. If your case is mild, and you feel that you can see well enough, then you will not make it worse by leaving it untreated.
