Depends on the add-on. Typical new construction cost will run between $80 and $150 per square foot depending on the part of the country, soil, existing building, building codes and services/utilities you plan to include. Finishing the interior can be spartan or spectacular and the cost will match. Use of the addition will influence cost also!

Depending on the size of the addition and the location of the project the cost of building can vary greatly. There are some rules of thumb to help create a general ballpark estimate. These estimates are usually expressed in dollars per square foot and can range anywhere from $20 to well over $300 per sq. foot.

To build an add-on to a existing house is not that much expensive as you don't need extra land, you need not fill the foundations again; you have to raise the walls in a systematic way and then the roof thereupon.
