Is it acceptable to have just finger foods at a wedding reception?

The choice is yours. If you plan a menu of finger foods, schedule the reception so that it does not coincide with a meal-time, thus causing guests to think a meal is going to be served.

There are different types of receptions and anything you choose is fine. Food choices can be communicated in the wedding invitation so that no one expects a sit-down dinner.

Absolutely! I have been to many weddings, with a lower budget and finger foods worked wonders! Provided there is enough for everyone invited...

A person's wedding is always unique. You can do whatever you want (legally) for your vows, reception, etc. Make sure all guests know the foods to be served.

Yes, but only if it's not during normal mealtimes. Consider mid-morning, the cocktail hour, or an after-dinner get-together.

Its your wedding, you can do it however you'd like. You may want to let people know, so they aren't expecting a full meal, though.
