Clindamycin may be prescribed for an abcessed tooth if other antibiotics have not been effective in preventing or treating the infection. Infections of the mouth can become very serious and spread to other parts of the body, so use of a strong antibiotic such as clindamycin is often necessary. Side effects, such as nasseau, should be minor.

Clindamycin is the drug of choice for dental abscesses that do not respond to Penicillin. It is typically given as a dosage of 300mg for seven days. The prognosis for recovery is good for a patient who is treated quickly.
