Is chicken noodle soup good for you when you are sick?

Is this really true or not?

Answer by  JPD79 (13)

In reality, chicken noodle soup is not what's good for you, it's the chicken grease in the soup that is good for you. The best thing to do when you are sick is to make or buy chicken soup and drink it with some lemon. There is nothing better for you.

In 2000, Dr. Stephen Renard from the University of Nebraska published a study showing vitamins and other nutrients in chicken noodle soup can have an anti-inflammatory effect. Also, the hot liquid brings relief to sore throats and congested passageways. And it's always nice to have something tasty when you're sick!

It is good for you, but not because of what is in the soup. Eating hot soup can temporarily help loosen congestion when you have a cold, which will improve breathing and help you feel better. Drinking hot beverages such as tea will have the same effect. Extra fluids are always a good idea when ill.

Studies show that chicken soup helps slow the inflamation that occurs with the cold virus. Researchers still don't know what it is in the soup that causes these benefits.

All I can say is that it would not hurt any. I have asked doctor's this question before and about half of them said yes it is good for you when you are no feeling well. All I know is that when I have a cold and I have some chicken soup it does make me feel a little better.
