Yes, they are the same thing. In addition to cooking, it can be used for household cleaning, as a toothpaste, or to deodorize the refrigerator.

They are one in the same. When used as medicine for indigestion, it is called bicarbonate of soda. When used for cooking and cleaning it is called baking soda. Other uses for baking soda include eliminating odor from the refrigerator, use as an abrasive cleaner in the bathroom and kitchen and toothpaste.
