Is an African-American Santa politically incorrect?

Isn't it insulting to kids' intelligence?

While it is politically correct, as Santa is really not a true person but someone in the hearts of kids, it may slightly confuse children as Santa tends to be Caucasian when he is pictured.

An interesting thought! Santa Claus means different things to different people and the African-American children may see his as black. Kids catch on a little too quickly anymore and I'm sure they wonder how a mall can have a Santa in every store anyway.

If you're following the legend of St. Nicholas, then a black Santa is historically incorrect because we know that St. Nicholas was Caucasian. If you're observing the secular tradition of Santa Claus, then whether or not it's politically correct is largely a matter of opinion.

Santa Claus is a secular icon whose image was made up by the Coca-Cola company and their advertising firm. It's based on the Night Before Christmas story which is not specific to race. There's no reason why Santa can't reflect the ethnic background of all children.
