Is a visa required for a layover in London?

Answer by  tschebyshev (252)

It depends where you are from, but if you are a U.S. citizen, you don't need a visa even for a longer stay in England. I recently went there for a six week stay, and no visa was required at all.

No Visas are required for any layovers where you stay in the international part of the airport. Visas are required when you officially enter a country through the formal immigration security area..

There are no visa requirements for a layover in London if you are planning to catch an ongoing flight out of the U.K. within 72 hours. You can check baggage after completing customs. If you have your passport, other travel documents, and on-going flight tickets there should be no trouble.
