Is a Squier tele a good option for a beginner?

My son would like to start taking guitar lessons, as a result I need to get him an inexpensive guitar.

a Squier Telecaster is a great option for a beginner. However, i would recommend going to your local music shop and looking at used gear.

It's not a bad option at all for a first guitar. If some of his favorite guitar players, play Strats, it's not a bad choice. Try to stick with an instrument that at least looks like something his favorite guitar players play. If he likes the way the instrument looks, he'll be more inclined to pick it up and practice.

This is a great beginning guitar if he is learning electric, but most instructors prefer you start with an acoustic guitar due to the picking that is usually done first, and also the fact that they can be found in smaller sizes such as 3/4 if the child is small.

Fender owns the Squier name. These guitars are generally made in Asia, As price point copies to the U.S.made line. This line of guitars is marketed toward the entry level/beginner players. So Yes,A Squier tele is a excellent example for a inexpensive guitar. The Epiphone line from Gibson is also a good source for cheaper guitars.

The most important factor for a first guitar is comfort and playing it doesn't cause alot of pain. You can purchase cheap packages that include an amplifier, picks, and cables.

Squiers have been made in a lot of far Eastern places. If it is Made in Japan, buy it and ask questions later!

A squire is fine for learning. Any guitar that isn't a toy will be fine for a beginner. I had a quire guitar and a squire amp when I started out and I still have it to this day, which is 7 years later. Its a very great and affordable option.
