It may or may not be. It does not magically lose all effectiveness at the expiration date, but it has degenerated to the point that it is no longer certain to work. Basically, you might be alright if you use it, but you will be taking a risk. The longer past the expiration date, the bigger the risk is.

If it has expired, then it is probably no longer effective. Expiration dates are set based on when the drugs are no longer effective or safe to use. You need a new one.

While there is a chance that an expired nuva ring will still prevent pregnancy, it is not very likely to be effective.

If you choose the Nuva Ring as a form of birth control. You should not use it past its expiration date. It is not as effective if used after the expiration date.

It is probably better then nothing, but it also may loose some potency and or it may become more prone to bacteria or other problems, better to get new.
