On it's own, a dry mouth would not necessarily make me think of diabetes, but in combination with a great thirst, weight loss, increased appetite or other symptoms, you would be on the right track to talk to your physician. A glycohemoglobin test would reveal if you've developed problems with your blood sugar levels. Talk to your doctor.

Dry mouth is a reduction in saliva. It makes swallowing difficult and reduces taste sensation. The cause of this is multifactorial. It may be caused by medications and diseases. But we cannot readily arrive with an answer that it is due to diabetes. It may be attributed to diabetes but it requires several laboratory testing to arrive with an answer.

It can be, but it is not a usual one. Ketosis leads to a sweet, sometimes alcoholic smell to the breath. That is the primary indicator.
