In most situations the dental hygienist is paid for the dentist if he is a private practice, or the company for which they both work for.

A hygienist is working for the dentist so more often than not they are paid directly by the dentist, which is their salary.

A dental hygienist works for the dental practice and paid through the practice, just as the dentists are. The dentist is the boss of the practice, and he will set the salary based on the practice's revenue.

Most of the time the hygienist would be employed and work for and out of the doctors office. THe dentist, I think, would hire the hygienist, and also pay the hygienist. THere could be other arrangements but I think that is how it is done most of the time.

The hygienist is an employee of the dental office. Patients are billed and insurance is submitted to insurance companies, but the patients do not bill the hygenist.
