In the game of tennis, love defines the score which is zero. If you say love all, both of you have scored no points in the *game* so far. Love in tennis comes from the french word for egg, which is l'oeuf. It is presumed that the egg represents is shaped like a zero which makes love equal 0.

The scoring system in tennis uses the term "love" to indicate "zero". "Love" as it is used in tennis is derived from the French word "l'oeuf", meaning "egg". An egg looks like a zero so wa-la! There you go! (I play tennis & even I don't get it)
