If water compresses the deeper it gets, will a sunken ship be able to rest on it without touching bottom?

No, a sunken ship will sink to the bottom. Water is not dense enough to support that much weight even in the deepest depths of the ocean. Also, water is liquid, thus the molecules are fluid and will move around the ship as it falls despite their more dense compacting under the pressure.

Water compresses only slightly under pressure, unlike air. If the ocean were over 100 miles deep, the water might compress to the point of solidifying, but not in our world.
