If there is unexplained weight gain in a child, what are some causes?

She isn't eating more or exercising less.

It may mean she is entering a growth spurt. If you would feel better, ask her doctor to put your mind at ease.

This is a common symptom of hypothyroidism. Thyroid hormone, also known as thyroxine, controls various aspects of the body, including weight gain. The child may also have Type I, or juvenile onset diabetes.

There is the possiblity that there is some hormone secretion defect for the child. There is also the possibility that child is not taking balanced food.
