If my kitten has a red ring around eye and it is runny, could it be its clay litter?

It could be, but more likely it's a virus. Many animals can catch a simple herpes virus when living in close quarters with other animals (e.g. in a shelter). It's easy to treat, but you'll need to take the animal to the vet.

There is actually no scientific evidence that clay litter causes any problems in cats. You should know the only stories about clay litter concern the digestive system.

It could be, but it's not all that likely. Your cat might have gotten some of the litter in its eye and if that's the case, the litter could be causing it. It sounds like your cat's eye is infected, so you should take it to a vet and they can give you an eye ointment to help.

It is best not to guess about things like this. It *could* be your kitten's clay litter, but you should see your vet to rule out something dangerous.

I would highly suggest that you take your kitten to see a vet, it is probably sick and has nothing to do with the litter that you are currently using.

Its possible, but it sounds like your kitten may have an infection of the eye if its oozing and running frequently. If the redness doesn't clear up within a day or so, take the animal to the vet, as leaving it untreated can cause serious health risk to the cat.

Some cats are allergic to some clay litters. If you have just changed your litter and this just happened you may want to change it back to what you were previously using.

It COULD be, but chances are, your playful little guy took a hit to the eye. Give it a week to let it clear up. Clay litter is NOT good, for male cats particularly, and a mess to your house. Clumping litters aren't much better. Pine litter is a DELIGHT to my life- smells clean, lasts longer than clumping, CHEAP!
