If I am in late pregnancy, 8th month, should I be worried that I am having abdominal cramping and diarrhea?

I am 38 weeks pregnant and this morning I awoke to cramping and diarrhea.

38 weeks is considered full term and these symptoms are most likely the beginning stages of labor. The cramps may even be early contractions.

Pregnancy can cause your body to do crazy things. It could be braxton hicks contractions. If you are taking anything like evening primrose oil, these can have effects like diarrhea. I would contact my doctor to be safe. That baby can come any day now.

It sounds like you may be going into the early stages of labor. If the cramping gets worse, chances are it's contractions, so I would go see your OB/GYN immediately.

This could be the signs of early labor. Diarrhea often comes shortly before labor or in the early stages of labor to help clean out your body. If the abdominal cramping becomes regular, or very painful go in to your nearest labor and delivery department to find out for sure.

Cramping and diarrhea is your body telling you it is preparing for labor. Make sure you have your hospital bag packed, call your doctors office and communicate with your nurse what is going on.

Any time that you have diarrhea or abdominal cramps while pregnant you should talk to your doctor. Even something as common as food poisoning can be dangerous to the baby.

This could be a sign of labor. Bowel movements such as these are sometimes common among women in labor. If you don't think this is the case, consult your OBGYN, as dehydration can occur.
