Use of decongestants including Pseudoephedrine and Phenylpropanolamine show a low risk of birth defects, but use may raise maternal blood pressure. Try nasal sprays instead for symptomatic relief.

Decongestants were once avoided during pregnancy but now some doctors believe it's OK. Recent studies show it's fine however the studies also show people who took them didn't have pre-term births. To be safe, you may still want to discuss the use of oral decongestants with your doctor first before using them.

Yes, sudafed is usually what is the least harmful recommendation. If you have had any complications with your pregnancy, such as high blood pressure, you will of course want to check with you doctor before taking any medications. Most doctors will have an on-call who will give you a recommendation even during the holidays.

Always check with your doctor before taking any medication while you are pregnant. Some seemingly safe medications can be dangerous to the baby. You can also look on the labels of the medication to get an idea.
