How would I restore the hair of a porcelain doll?

There are some professional who do a great job restoring porcelain dolls and their hair. They aren't cheap but if you find it difficult to do yourself or the doll is very valuable, it's worthwhile using their services.

The really old expensive porcelain dolls used really human hair. You would have to get a spray adhesive and attach hairs one at a time... slow but effective.

If the hair is frizzy or has lost it's shine try this. Use windex to clean the hair. Rinse with warm water. Condition the hair while it's still wet. Spray some Son of a Gun and then cover with plastic for 2 days. Straighten out the fizz and style it.

To start with, you will want to rinse out the doll's hair in warm water. Spray on some windex and rinse it with warm water again. Then use children's detangler and conditioner to soften the hair. Wrap it in plastic for a couple of days, then when the plastic is removed, let it dry before styling.

Rerooting doll hair can be done by the knot method, or the needle and thread method. Porcelain dolls sometimes have wigs that are glued on. Remove with cool water and use Windex and work it through with your fingers. Use a brush with metal tines, never use a brush with human hair because of oil transfer.

I guess that is why they say never brush your porcelain dolls hair. Just warning anyone who decides to give their doll a new hair style don't it will ruin it.
