If he seems interested in the same sex, or even makes comments, but never seems interested in the opposite sex is a good indication.

I'm not sure how close you are with your friend but it sounds like you both need to learn more about one another. Eventually, that information will be revealed.

The only way a person can tell for sure is if that other person expresses sexual interest in those of the same sex. Pay attention to the things that person says about other members of his/her sex, and how often he/she talks about the sexual characteristics of people of the same gender, or if he/she expresses homosexual fantasies.

Sounds like you don't want to risk getting involved, period. You want guarantees, whereas human relationships are inherently risky. Get a dog.
