This can actually be done pre-birth, though there are risks associated with amniocentesis and CVS (chorionic villus sampling)testing, as it is an intrusive procedure and should never be done in a high risk pregnancy. Post-natal, blood can be taken immediately. Oral swabbing can be performed on infant and parents for DNA sampling, and I would suggest this, rather than prenatal.

Your best bet if possible while the baby and the mother are in the hospital get it done. The doctor can order this done, before baby and mom go home.

You should be able to get a paternity test done as soon as the child is born. Essentially they just have to get a DNA sample, which is usually done by take blood, and they do blood work immediately anyways. How long after they do get the DNA and until they know the results of the test is unknown, however.

A paternity test can be performed immediately after a baby is born, it only requires a swab of the babies mouth for saliva to test. The potential father will also need to have his mouth swabbed to have a comparison sample.
