Question by  ZachStein (20)

How should I teach a child how to do a front handspring?

Answer by  askandyoushallreceive (658)

For children to be taught things like this they need to have it broken down into a few main points. Breakdown the front handspring and go through each section of it. Then get them out there. Watch each movement and give corrections for sure.

Teaching a child anything like that should really be done by a professional to ensure your child isn't hurt. Check out your phone book for a local gymnastics program.

You should give a demonstration by yourself first, if possible. Give him a short explanation and watch him as he tries, giving him support and security.

You should teach with patience, and make sure you do one step at a time. Before I learned how to do a front handspring I streched in the morning and in the evening. I worked with a partner as well to make sure i wouldn't get injured.

There are two good options here. One is by buying a beginner's how to video for Gymnastics. The second in a beginners gym class.

Well if this is for gymnastics, then what you need to do is show a child one step at a time. If that does not work, show a beginners video a couple of times until your child gets it. Otherwise, instruct him one step at a time and take it slowly.
