Contact your insurance company and see if the damages will be covered under your policy. If not, bring the damages to the rental companies attention and see if you would be allowed to get the repairs done, this is sometimes cheaper. If not, try to negotiate down the settlement costs.

Reread your contract. Contact an attorney or your insurance company. They may cover some charges for personal damages you cause. Check to see if you paid for any additional fees to cover the damages or losses to the vehicle. If damages were sustained by another vehicle or person, get their name and insurance information.

You will want to be sure that you have a copy of the waiver form that you filled out when you rented the car. Also, it will help if you have photos of exactly what you did to it, to prevent extra blame later.

It is likely that you have nothing to negotiate. Read the contract. If you waived insurance, you're responsible for repairs.

Whether you can negotiate is up to the rental company. If you signed a contract to take care any damage, you likely have no room to negotiate. Check with your auto insurance carrier, which may offer coverage for rental cars. If you don't have that kind of coverage, the rental company should have offered an option.

When this happened to me, I had my insurance company deal with it. I don't know what they did but it didn't cost me a penny. Unless you know how to negotiate with folks like this (and do it professionally) it probably is a good idea to leave the job to people who do it well.

While negotiating with a rental car company, give them guarantee that you would repair the damages for the car you rented or take the car to a workshop and check out how much amount would be spent in repairing and provide the cash to the company.

Well, just tell them what happened and be honest with them. Also tell them it wasn't your fault. Try to plead your case as much as you can. And make reference to other company's prices.
