People who are very emotional should not be left alone for long periods of time. Getting the person to join a community or group is ideal. Talking or writing your comments is beneficial and helps the person feel better. Joining forums or getting a pen pal someone who will talk to you.

Don't deal with them. Set the boundary that is best for you, and let them know when they violate that. Require them to take responsibility for themselves. You're a person, not a teat.

It is important to set boundaries with emotionally needy people so that you can maintain your sanity and your own personal space. Make sure these people understand your availability to them and set restrictions so that your own space is not violated. You determine the boundaries of how often you are available, so set them at your discretion.

You need to deal with them by setting boundries and sticking to them. You can say you will hear about their problem for five minutes and at the end of five minutes you tell them you are going. It is okay to hear their problems and show that you care, you just have to put a limit on it.

You can't deal with emotionally needy people as a category, you have to take each one on as their own person, but you can't let them run YOUR life. Tell them they need help if they're not getting it, if they're your friend or loved one, they'll thank you for it later.
