How safe are glass tops on tables?

They are fairly safe, but not 100%. They're made of thick tempered, laminated glass, will not shatter glass all over if something is dropped on them. With care, no problem.

Depends on the quality of glass and if you have any kids. My mother owned one which was later given to me (and I moved a lot) and the only issue were scratches left in the table. Most of them were caused by decorative items placed on the table though.

Glass tops on tables are made with much thicker glass than say a wine glass. Wine glasses break easily because the glass is so thin. But a glass table top would be thicker and less likely to chip or crack so they are definitely safe!

I have glass tops on all my tables in my house. The finish now is very cheap even on expensive furniture and it will take a beating. My 6 seat dining room table has one large oval cut piece on top and it looks great and expensive! Price compare and you'll save a lot of money, I did.
