Jack Dempsey have been known to spawn quite frequently in aquariums. The will lay anywhere from 300-500 eggs at one time and protect the fry until they are mature enough to survive on their ow. This should take anywhere from 1-2 months. Jacks spawn on average once every 6 weeks.

Jack Depsey fish, like most fish, can breed about once every 3-4 weeks. Like most cichlids, the Jack Depsey fish are great parents. Both parents help incubate the eggs and guard the fry when they hatch. Jack Dempseys are known to be attentive parents but sometimes will even eat their offspring.
