How much time do you have to spend to have a legitimate "climbing stairs" workout?

It depends on your fitness. The goal is to get your heart going and that may take only a short time if you are just starting on a fitness program. Climbing stairs is hard work. It stresses the heart and lungs and strengthens the leg muscles. Do it until you feel the stress. Push yourself

Although the duration of the workout is part of getting a good workout, it is more important to focus on form and effort exerted during the workout. Generally, 30-45 minutes.

After lunch I have 15-20 minutes for climbing the stairs in the company garage. I arrive at work late, so I usually park on the top floor. After work I usually climb the stairs and sometimes t, i will go down the stairs and back up which takes 10 minutes.

With this workout, just like any other cardio workout, it's best to spend at least a half an hour on it, if not more. The most you should do is 45 minutes in order to really feel the effects.
