Talk to your pediatrician about when to start rice cereal and how much to give. You want to make sure that the consumption of cereal doesn't interfere with the baby getting the proper amount of milk/formula each day. When babies start on cereal, they will eat a few spoonfuls and generally stop when they are full.

At around six months many parents start their babies on about a tablespoon of rice cereal mixed with 2-3 tablespoons of breast milk of formula. Many parents skip rice cereal all together because it has the properties of watery glue. Be sure your baby is getting the vast majority of his nutrition from breastmilk or formula until 12 months!

It really depends on how old the baby is. If s/he is 4 months old, start out with one tablespoon. If s/he is 6 months old, start out with 4 tablespoons. After a month, you can increase by two tablespoons. Books at your library can help.

Begin your baby on small amounts to allow their digestive system to get used to it. The baby isn't used to solid foods of any kind, so you need to start slowly and get her used to it.
