Currently (July 2010), scrap aluminum is going for about 70 cents per pound. This is about 10 cents per pound above rates earlier this year. During 2007 - 2008, aluminum cans peaked at about 85 cents per pound. In some states, you can separate out recyclable soda and beer cans and get 5 cents each.

It might vary a bit depending on where you live, but our local recycling center is currently paying $.30/lb. I've seen it as high as $.50/lb. Ours will also pay for plain white paper and other recycleables that you may have. Worth checking!

Some states have a precise amount per can, often 5 or 10 cents. Some states go by weight, typically between one and two dollars per pound.
