Child and Dependt Care Credit is 20% of the first $3000 per child. The credit can be claimed on up to two children. The $3000 must be reduced by any assistance provided by an employer. The credit is limited by your tax liability.

You can claim up to $3,000 per child, or a maximum of $6,000 per return, as child care expenses. You get a percentage of this deduction as a non-refundable credit on your tax bill. You can only deduct expenses for those months in which you (and spouse, if applicable) were employed or in school. Maximum is $500 per eligible month.

You can claim one hundred percent of your child care expenses in your yearly tax return. You need to have accountable receipts and proof of childcare to be able to do this. You will need to file an amended return in order to do this. It should be easy to do.
