How many people have been to the moon?

Only twelve people have actually walked on the moon. The first being, of course, Neil Armstrong in 1969. The last were Harrison Schmitt and Eugene Cernan in 1972.

Each moon mission consisted of 3 people. On the landing missions, 2 would land and one remained in orbit. A total of 24 people made it TO the moon, either orbiting, or in the case of Apollo 13, doing a fly by. Only 12 people have actually landed and walked around on the Moon.
