Question by  wettrousers (6)

How many licks does it take to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop?

Answer by  phil9745 (160)

That depends on how you lick it. Some people lick and suck the Tootsie Pop at nearly the same time. Others just lick around the outer shell.

Many factors are involved in determining the number of licks required. Mouth size, saliva production and force of the lick can affect the process and vary the number of licks dramatically. For these reasons, there is no definite number of required licks to get to the center of a Tootie Pop.

It depends on how eager you are to get to the center. If you bite it and it breaks in half, then voila... you didn't have to lick it at all. If you have a smaller or larger than normal size tongue then it will take you more or less time than someone else.

Well, the standard answer is "the world may never know. " However, if I remember right, it took me about 55-60 licks to get to the center once.

My son did this a few years ago. It took him 43 licks to get the hard surface completely off the tootsie roll.
