A dwarf hamster will have between 4 and 6 babies. Sometimes that number could be lower, but normally between 4 and 6 per pregnancy. Some have been recorded as having a litter as large as 12 to 16 babies at once. In having said that the larger the litter the more chance of the babies dying after birth.

On average, a mother will have between 3 and 6 babies. It's possible to get smaller litters, of only 2 pups, or very big ones, of up to 18 pups (but in such cases, mortality rates are also very high among the newborns).

It always generally depends on the condition of the mother dwarf hamster. Generally speaking, a small litter for dwarf hamsters would be about 2 to 3, but it is not uncommon for a dwarf hamster to birth anywhere between 12 to 16 babies in a litter. However, the more babies they have, the higher the mortality rate will be.

I know that the two Russian dwarf hamsters that I purchased from a breeder came from a litter of four. I doubt that they can have too many litters in their lifetime, considering they only have a life expectancy of one to four years. If you are curious, you can contact a pet store for more information.
