How long will it take to get in shape by running?

It depends what you mean by "in shape". If you stick by a consistent and challenging running regimen, with increasing speeds and distances, as well as rest periods built in, you should see improvements in your cardiovascular endurance in about 2 weeks, and some weight reduction by about 4 weeks.

There is no set answer because there are so many variable factors, ie how in or out of shape you are. You could probably be in shape within 6 months.

It depends on your initial fitness. It will generally take about 2 months to go from no running program to steady running for 20 minutes. You can find many couch-to-5k running programs online designed to get you started running. You should consult a doctor before beginning this program, since running is a high impact activity and can be harmful.
