Seeds collected and dried properly should last for a year and a half or longer. The middle of September thru middle of November is the time to collect their seeds. Collect ones that have just fallen or about too; brown husks should just be beginning to open.

As long as the seeds are kept in a dry place out of direct sunlight they should last for about a year before being planted. After that there are no guarantees.

Copper Beech seeds don't need to be planted in the Fall, because they remain dormant during the winter and will not start growing until Spring.
