time

Question by  Kim81 (12)

How long should I expect to wait after submitting a resume?

Isn't there a time period in which they should respond?

Every company seems to be on their own time schedule these days. If you submit a resume to a company that is seriously searching for a new hire you can hear back within two weeks. Sometimes it take a month or more. Well, of course there are those companies that call months later because they're hiring again.

If you submitted the resume in person, then within about three days, ask them when they might be calling for interviews. When they say that they will be calling, if you do not get a call, then call them and sell yourself to them to get an interview.

I heard 7-10 days, if not, then the employer is not interested

It really depends on the employer and the position. If you replied to an advertised position, most companies should most likely respond within a few weeks should they select you for further consideration. If you simply dropped off an unsolicited resume, there may be no response until they are in need of your position. There is no "standard" time.

They are not mandated by law to respond in any specific time. However, if you do not hear back within 14 days for a phone screening or interview, then they are not interested in you as a candidate.
