Sweet potatoes can be baked in a 400 degree oven for an hour. If you are cooking other items in your oven (such as a roast or chicken) you can bake them at a lower temperature. I. e. , if you are roasting a chicken at 350 degrees, put the potatoes in the oven,too, and let them cook about 1. 5 hours.

To bake a small to medium sweet potato, you will need to wrap it in foil and bake it for about twenty minutes. A larger potato may require thirty minutes of baking. They should be slightly soft to the touch and have a little bit of a crispy skin on the outside.

Run sweet potato under cold water, pat dry, pierce in 2 or 3 places with a fork, use hands to coat lightly with a bit of canola oil, place in preheated 450-degree oven for 45 minutes (turning it over half way through). (Try a white sweet potato. Yummy! )
