Wearing an eye patch can be bothersome, but doing so will insure a speedy recovery for scratched corneas. On average, a basic scratch will heal within 24-48 hours. However, deeper scratches may take up to two weeks. Scratched corneas that include infections will also need oral and topical antibiotics and may take up to 4 weeks to heal.

Scratched corneas can take a couple days to weeks to heal. The problem is blinking which may irritate the scratch or rub any new tissue away causing discomfort and pain.

If treated quickly and the cornea remains clean it should feel better within one week. The cornea itself however will take much longer to fully heal and leaves a scar
