Most doctors advise 3 to 5 days of bedrest with moderate activity, followed by 2 to 4 weeks of physical therapy after orthopedic surgeries. This can all vary depending on the doctor, extent of the injury, and physical condition of the patient. Some may need more physical therapy to heal the injury and recover full function.

If the humerus fracture is displaced , surgeon may use pins or wires to hold the broken pieces of bones in place. After surgery, the injured area may be splinted or casted for a short period of time. Stitches or staples are removed after two weeks. Doctor may prescribe physiotherapy and exercise for next few months for the complete recovery.

The recovery time depends on the patient's age. My daughter had this surgery when she was 6 years old, and her arm was completely healed within 3 weeks. However, I think that for an adult, it may take closer to something like 6 weeks for the bone to heal completely.

Everyone heals different when it comes to surgery or broken bones. Usually it would take about 6-8 weeks, but it has taken some 3-4 months.
