Unrefined sugar is sugar that has not been stripped of all of its valuable nutrients. It is made from the same cane juice that refined sugar is made from, however, it has been processed less. Unrefined sugar still contains trace nutrients like phosphorus, calcium and iron. Refined sugar contains none of those, and contains unhealthy residues from the refining process.

Unrefined sugar, unlike refined sugar, is made from the juice that the sugar cane plant has. This type of sugar has nutrients and even trace minerals. Refined sugar has no nutrients at all, and that's why unrefined sugar would be a better choice to buy in stores.

The process of refining sugar involves taking away some of the nutrients. Unrefined sugar comes directly from the sugar can plant and has the natural minerals.
