The trade-in values for games are determined by the condition of the game when you try to trade it in. The revelance or popularity of the game is another major factor for the trade-in value. Some stores also have different policies regarding trade-in values for games. If the store has several copies of the game, the trade-in value decreases.

The trade-in value depends on two things; supply and demand. If there is very low supply due to people not trading the game in, and the demand for used copies high, then you will be paid highly for the game. This is why old sports games' trade-in values are extremely low.
