The Old English alphabet had only 23 of our modern English letters. It was missing a "J", "U", and "W". But it had 6 additional symbols.

Old English was a crossbreed between what we consider English today and German. There was no standard for spelling back then so often the same word would be spelled many different ways in the same text. Don't confuse Old English with Middle English that appears in Chaucer's Canterbury Tales or with Shakespeare who uses dated modern English.
