Live sand is an alternative to lower end substrate that comes already aged. What this means is, you do not have to wait for beneficial bacteria to begin growing and purifying the water, youpurchased the bagged sand wet with the bacteria already established. This shortens the length of time needed to get a tank ready for livestock.
