A lug nut wrench is different from most other wrenches, because it is in a fixed position unlike some other wrenches. For instance the monkey wrench is in a movable position that can be changed with a simple gear system that is built into the wrench. But for the most part, a lug nut wrench is just a specific name.

When you need to put a tool on top of a nut and get leverage so that you can start turning the nut loose you need a lug nut wrench. This tool differs from a regular wrench in that the piece that fits over a specific size nut will fit snugly over the nut and tighten from the bolt.

Lug nut wrenches are non-adjustable, "x" shaped with 4 sizes or "check mark" with a single size, and sturdy enough to apply lots of pressure, such as standing on it.
